Dr Prachi Bhave
Medical Oncologist
Dr Prachi Bhave is a Medical Oncologist and leads the Phase I Clinical Trials Program at Cabrini. She is also the Monash Comprehensive Cancer Consortium (MPCCC) genomics fellow. Dr. Bhave overseas the screening, enrolment and management of patients with advanced cancer participating in early phase clinical trials.
The trials program at Cabrini is robust and varied, involving several new and exciting therapies for treatment refractory solid organ malignancies. Through the incorporation of a patient’s genomic sequencing information, patients are matched to clinical trials that best suit their tumour’s mutational profile, reflecting a personalised treatment approach that is of vital importance in the current era of precision medicine.
Outside of Cabrini, Dr Bhave leads the Gynaecology Oncology stream at Austin Hospital where she is responsible for the development and management of gynaecology oncology clinical trials. Dr. Bhave is also completing a PhD in melanoma genomics and computational biology at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and has secured a highly competitive NHMRC scholarship for this work. Dr. Bhave has won several awards for her research endeavours including a prestigious American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) merit award and the 2022 Young Victorian Melanoma Researcher of the Year award. She has published over 20 peer-reviewed papers as first or co-author and secured a number of competitive research grants to support her work.
Prior to her medical degree, Dr Bhave completed a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Melbourne. Following this, she obtained her Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery degree, after which she went on to complete her internship and internal medicine training at the Alfred Hospital. Dr Bhave then undertook her speciality training in Medical Oncology at the Northern Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Alfred Hospital. Dr Bhave has then worked at several tertiary hospitals across Melbourne and Sydney before joining Cabrini in 2023. Dr. Bhave has a strong interest in translational research. She treats a wide range of cancers but has a special interest in early drug development, skin and gynaecological malignancies.
